Teachers are busy people and we have designed this book with that fact in mind. Each Whetstone is a four-page gem, containing ideas, connections, understandings and applications. This book is a bedside book or a coffee table book or a book to keep handy on a desktop. It can be opened to any Whetstone by referring to the Contents section or the Index pages. The table of contents shows the mappings to the National Curriculum document.
We have addressed the writing in the Whetstones to teachers in the first instance, although we hope students may also find it of interest. Each Whetstone is designed for about 30 minutes to an hour of reading and reflection and contains a few questions on the fourth page to consolidate the understandings.
Four page booklets may be photocopied and used as guided lesson material for students. The authors would encourage this and have no problem with it as far as copyright is concerned, provided that the teacher who owns the book teaches those students.
